Upgrades & Projects Completed at Museum, more Funding Needed

A $42,000 HVAC project was completed at the Tuscarora Academy Museum this year. Installation of the mini-splits and cassettes was completed in February and we are now monitoring the benefit on temperatures, humidity control and hopefully the electric bills.

We received an estimate to repair and re-glaze the 29 windows at the Academy and install Ultra-Violet (UV) film on the same, and do three other repairs. That estimate is a staggering $51,594 and requires a company with expertise at restoration and repair of historic properties. The Society has applied for a Keystone Historic Preservation Grant from the Pennsylvania Historical and Muse-um Commission, which would refund 50 percent of the project cost. If selected, work would begin no earlier than October 2023. In addition, volunteers are needed to work on the inside of the 29 windows, so that the UV film can be successfully applied.

To make the best of the new HVAC at the Academy, insulation has been blown into the attic, at $3,460. Gutters need to be cleaned out and drain spouts reattached to the stonework, at $2,050.
