2024 – Annual Fund Drive

Dear Community Member

Over the years, your support has been invaluable in allowing us to continue our critical work. Your generosity has enabled us to take great steps in protecting our resources, including adding an HVAC and climate control system to the Tuscarora Academy Museum, insulating the Academy’s attic for better efficiency, and restoring the shutters on the Primitive Baptist Church.

We’re in the middle of our window restoration at the Academy. We’ve nearly completed the first floor, and the difference is profound. This work will help the Academy hold up against harsh weather for many years to come. We were able to further the impact of your contributions by using a grant from the PA State Historic Preservation Office. There will be some overage in the project expenses, which we’re hoping to cover with this fund drive.

We’ve also been working with a contractor to address repairs necessary for the gutters, and the wooden medallion on the side wall of the building. There is some urgent plaster work in the Academy that we want to address once the exterior restoration has been completed.

Our work in the Archives and Research Library remains as important as ever. Our dedicated
volunteers continue to provide valuable insights for members and researchers on their families. We have begun our digitization project, and have made strides in processing the early Juniata County tax records.

Our Archives holds newspapers in paper and microfilm format that are not available anywhere else. Our microfilm has begun to deteriorate due to “vinegar syndrome”, which means its only a matter of time until they are completely unreadable. We’re hoping to raise funds to outsource digitizing these records and provide our researchers easier access to these rare historical newspapers.

Last year, we raised $19,381 from the 2023 fund drive thanks to our generous members. This year we hope to raise $25,000. Please consider a donation, and help us continue our important work.
